JOHANNESBURG – The corruption case of former African National Congress (ANC) national spokesperson, Pule Mabe, returns to court on Tuesday.
Mabe, along with six others, face a combined 16 counts of fraud, money laundering and contraventions of the Public Finance Management Act.
The charges relate to a R27 million tender scored by Mabe’s company, Enviro Mobi, in 2017 to supply 200 three-wheeler motorbikes to the City of Ekurhuleni.
The State alleges that when Mabe’s company scored the tender in 2017, he was still a member of Parliament.

In addition, the State said that Enviro Mobi did not disclose its affiliation with Mabe.
Another allegation by the State is that Mabe’s company received an upfront payment of about R25 million despite the contract agreement saying that government could only start paying once 50% of the work was done.
In multiple media interviews, Mabe has pleaded his innocence, saying it was not a crime for an ANC member to do business with the state.
However, Parliament’s code of ethics discourages members from doing business with government.
