A lucky Cork lotto player was so shocked after realising they had bagged tens of thousands of euros that they hid their winning scratch card under their mattress.
The punter recently claimed their winnings after nabbing the top prize on the €5 “Bingo Multiplier” scratch card, which was purchased at Con’s Shop, a well-known family-run store on the Guarranabraher Road.
When they travelled up to collect their cheque at the Lotto HQ in Dublin, they told the team how they kept the scratch card hidden safely under their mattress after double-checking the winning numbers. They said: “I’ve been sleeping on it for the past few nights.”
“I tucked the Scratch Card under my mattress as soon as I realised just how much it was worth since it seemed like the last place anyone else would be looking,” they said, “To be honest, I have been in total disbelief since the win.”
“When I scratched the last panel on the ticket and saw what I had won, I wanted to be certain so I wrote out all of the numbers on a page and ticked them all off one by one. It wasn’t until I spoke to the Claims team that I really started to believe it though – it was only then that I told my family.”
The winner is now looking forward to booking a holiday and jetting off to celebrate their win.
There have been a number of lotto wins in Cork in recent weeks, but one of the biggest was claimed by another Leesider, who won €164,156 a fortnight ago after matching five numbers and the bonus in the main draw. The player was the biggest winner of the night with a Quick Pick ticket from Lidl in Ballyvolane.
