Earlier in the day, CoreWeave was already on a downward trend after Morgan Stanley’s five-star analyst Keith Weiss slammed a Hold rating on the stock, citing investor doubts about its ability to meet growth targets following recent challenges to its operations. This added to news that Blue Owl Capital (OWL) failed its attempt to secure funding for its data center project with the New Jersey-based AI cloud infrastructure company.
On the other hand, Nebius’ shares were already under pressure following the Amsterdam-based company’s latest quarterly results. TipRanks’ Crowd Wisdom tool indicates caution among investors in approaching NBIS stock.
Iren has also faced a similar setup to Nebius with the release of its most recent quarterly earnings. However, unlike Nebius, TipRanks’ Crowd Wisdom tool suggested a very bullish view on Iren among investors, adding to analysts’ generally upbeat post-earnings assessment of the Australian AI cloud company and Bitcoin miner.
Recently, the Trump administration, under Section 232 of the U.S. Trade Expansion Act of 1962, imposed a 25% tariff on “certain advanced AI chips” on national security grounds. However, President Trump on Friday threatened a new 10% global tariff after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled out the American leader’s earlier tariffs under a different legislation, the Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
While some products could see their overall duty burden fall under the new 10% reciprocal tariff regime as existing rates are higher, advanced AI chips are unlikely to benefit because their separate 25% Section 232 levy sits outside that framework and remains in place.
CoreWeave, Nebius, and Iren are considered proxies for the AI and semiconductor industry and are therefore exposed to updates affecting the sector.
