Cops address bombshell discovery of Spider-Man suit near where William Tyrrell vanished

Spider-Man suit found less than 30 minutes from where William Tyrrell disappeared from in 2014Digital Staff7NEWSWed, 15 October 2025 5:59AM

A spiderman suit has been found on a beach at Dunbogan on the NSW mid-north coast, not far from Kendall, where William Tyrrell disappeared in 2014.

Police do not believe it is the same Spiderman suit the three-year-old was wearing in 2014 when he went missing.

It’s understood the brand of the costume and fabric do not match William’s suit.

The discovery was made on Monday, and it’s not clear whether someone left it there accidentally or as a hoax.

“Officers attached to Mid-North Coast Police District were notified of the discovery of a Spider-Man suit on a property on Beach Place in Dunbogan,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Local police conducted a subsequent search of the property on Tuesday however, nothing else of interest was found.

“The suit was forensically examined by Strike Force Rosann detectives from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and has been ruled out as having any connection to the William Tyrrell investigation.”

The towns of Kendall and Dunbogan are around 30 minutes apart.

Inquest hoped to find answers

William’s disappearance has been the subject of a years-long inquest.

The three-year-old went missing while playing at his foster grandmother’s home in Kendall, on the NSW mid-north coast, on September 12, 2014.

The inquest into William’s disappearance began in March 2019 but was adjourned in October 2020.

The inquest before Deputy State Coroner Harriet Grahame resumed last year before continuing into 2025.

No one has been charged in the case and a $1 million reward for information still stands.

Despite a decade-long investigation involving hundreds of persons of interest and dozens of searches, no trace of the boy — last seen wearing a Spider-Man suit — has been found.

In November, 2021 police launched a fresh, month-long search for William’s remains that concluded without any obvious breakthroughs.

In May last year, a review into evidence that the three-year-old’s former foster mother might have been involved in his disappearance was suspended after a police request to the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions.

Investigators had provided a brief for prosecutors to consider potential charges against the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, who they believed might have disposed of William’s body after an accidental death.

The foster mother has always denied having anything to do with William’s disappearance.
