Jaishankar had made the remarks today in the Rajya Sabha while speaking on the ongoing debate on Operation Sindoor.
“His remarks on Nehru and the Indus Waters Treaty in the Rajya Sabha today were, to put it mildly, absolutely shocking,” Ramesh said.
Ramesh highlighted the significance of the treaty, stating that without the three Eastern Rivers (Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi) being exclusively with India, crucial projects like the Bhakra Nangal dam complex and the Rajasthan Canal wouldn’t have been possible.
Ramesh mentioned that India has implemented several hydel projects on the Chenab and Jhelum rivers, including Baglihar, Salal, Dul Hasti, Uri, and Kishenganga.
The Congress leader questioned Jaishankar’s professionalism, saying, “Once upon a time, the External Affairs Minister was known as a professional. Today, he showed that he has long given up the slightest pretense of being one.”
Ramesh’s criticism comes amid a heated debate in Parliament, with the Opposition targeting the government’s handling of various issues. The Congress has been vocal in its criticism of the government’s policies and actions, and this latest development is likely to further escalate tensions.
