On December 6, the River City Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a Colonial Christmas at Abandoned Antiques 8323 Highway 51 North.
Many different activities were held during the event to allow people to experience how Christmas was celebrated in colonial times.
The Millington Central High School Band ensemble treated guests to a mini concert, the Top Spinners Square Dance Club demonstrated and taught period dances, and River City chapter members provided holiday food and drink, including wassail. Stations featuring whirligigs and greenery swag decorating were popular.
Living historians, including members of Muddy River Rifles Living History, wandered through the store, sharing insights into the past. Participants were able to hear colonial music, learn about parlor games, and explore genealogy, all while being surrounded by antiques and happy shoppers.
A “fox hunt” with small plush foxes hidden around the store was fun for adults and children alike.
Donations were collected for LINCS (Ladies In Need Can Survive), a non-profit organization that helps troubled women transition back into society. https://www.ladiescan.org/
