U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has rebranded its Coinbase Wallet as the Base app, unveiling what it calls a new “super app” for the crypto ecosystem.
Announced at its “A New Day One” event in Los Angeles, the Base app is positioned as an all-in-one platform that merges crypto wallet functionality with trading, payments, social media, and messaging. A promotional video showcased how the app integrates these features to offer a seamless experience for crypto users.
According to a company blog post, “Coinbase Wallet is now the Base app, evolving from a wallet into an everything app that brings together social, apps, chat, payments, and trading.”
The Base app will also support “mini apps” built on Coinbase’s own Ethereum layer-2 network, Base, allowing users to discover and interact with decentralized applications directly within the platform.
John Granata, Head of Product for the Base app, said the goal is to “expand economic freedom, creativity, and innovation,” hinting that the platform could serve as the foundation for a new type of crypto-based social network.
Currently in beta and available via waitlist, the Base app centers around four main experiences: a social network, a decentralized app hub, encrypted chat, and an integrated trading and payments wallet.
Features of the Base app
The new Base app introduces an open social network built on Farcaster, empowering creators to fully own their content and earn directly from their posts—no follower thresholds or brand partnerships required.
It also features seamless integrated trading, allowing users to buy, sell, and swap supported cryptocurrencies right from their social feed. Additionally, the app supports NFC (Near Field Communication) payments through “Base Pay,” enabling instant tap-to-pay transfers using Circle’s USDC.
Mini apps included
The Base app also includes hundreds of built-in mini-apps for gaming, yield farming, and prediction markets, offering users a wide range of on-chain experiences. Its upgraded chat system supports end-to-end encrypted messaging and features AI agents that assist with trading and transactions.
A new “Sign in with Base” feature allows users to carry their credentials across platforms, enabling fast and secure logins to various online apps.
Coinbase enters the race to build a crypto-powered super app
Coinbase is stepping into the super app arena alongside giants like Meta, X, Grab, WeChat, and Alipay—companies known for consolidating multiple services, features, and financial tools into a single mobile platform.
Jesse Pollak, the creator of Base, called the launch “a new day one for Base and our brand.” To mark the occasion, he shared a selfie as the first tokenized post on the Base app.

Meanwhile, the Binance Wallet X feed posted a cryptic message on Wednesday suggesting that it may also be working on something: “Something big is coming up. Stay tuned!”
