According to a press release shared with crypto.news, XSGD will be available to Coinbase and Coinbase Advanced users starting September 29, 2025, at 19:00 UTC. As part of its initial rollout, XSGD will also be issued on the Ethereum Layer 2 chain, Base.
XSGD is the first stablecoin backed by the Singapore Dollar (SGD) and is recognized by financial regulators as compliant with Singapore’s upcoming Single Currency Stablecoin regulatory framework.
The collaboration between Coinbase and StraitsX, the stablecoin-native settlement layer, makes XSGD accessible through decentralized exchanges on Base, marking it as the world’s first SGD-backed stablecoin created by StraitsX. This partnership broadens global financial access beyond traditional models.
To support its launch, the two companies are introducing joint liquidity pools that enable users to exchange stablecoins across different currencies. Notably, a XSGD/USDC pool will be available on Aerodrome, Base’s primary liquidity hub, with liquidity incentives supported by both Aerodrome and the Base ecosystem.
How Coinbase Users Can Access XSGD
Starting September 29, users will be able to convert Singapore Dollars directly into XSGD stablecoins at a 1:1 ratio through Coinbase and other decentralized exchanges on Base. Users can also trade other currencies and assets for XSGD through the available liquidity pools.
XSGD provides a SGD-based alternative to the dominant USD stablecoins, allowing individuals and businesses in Singapore to transact and manage digital assets in their local currency. The stablecoin is designed to mitigate currency risk and reduce foreign exchange volatility.
Additionally, having XSGD available on Base unlocks new use cases for users and developers, including using the stablecoin to activate AI agents, purchase digital art, acquire NFT-linked collectibles, and facilitate other on-chain transactions.
Hassan Ahmed, Country Director of Coinbase Singapore, stated that the XSGD launch aims to maximize stablecoin adoption and transform cross-border payments, increasing global economic freedom.
“With XSGD live on Coinbase Singapore, we’re one step closer to making local and cross-border payments instant and accessible to everyone with a phone and wallet,” said Ahmed.
