Coinbase has launched a new savings account for UK customers, offering daily interest on GBP balances with instant access and full deposit protection.
The rollout begins on November 11 for selected users, with broader access planned in the coming weeks. Operated through ClearBank, the account benefits from Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) protection of up to £85,000 — the same safeguard available to traditional UK savings accounts.
A regulated savings product — not a crypto yield offering
The account provides a variable annual equivalent rate (AER) of 3.75%, calculated daily and credited once the accrued interest reaches one penny. There are no minimum deposits, no lock-in periods, and withdrawals are instant. Unlike crypto-based yield or staking programs, this is a fully regulated savings product.
Interest rates may fluctuate in line with Bank of England base rate changes — increases can take effect immediately, while decreases will typically be announced in advance unless directly linked to BoE adjustments.
Funds can be moved back to a user’s GBP balance at any time, to buy crypto, make purchases via the Coinbase Card, or withdraw to a bank account. Interest stops accruing once funds are withdrawn or the account is closed, though any interest earned up to that point remains.
Strengthening Coinbase’s UK footprint
The United Kingdom is Coinbase’s largest market outside the United States. Earlier this year, the company obtained its Virtual Asset Service Provider registration from the Financial Conduct Authority, enabling it to expand its regulated financial offerings.
This new savings product arrives amid ongoing regulatory attention. Coinbase’s UK arm was fined in 2024, and its European subsidiary faced penalties in 2025 from the Central Bank of Ireland for historical compliance lapses. The company says it has since strengthened its monitoring and anti–money laundering controls, reaffirming its commitment to the UK as a core market.
The savings feature complements existing services such as the Coinbase Card, stablecoin offerings, and access to over 260 digital assets — part of Coinbase’s broader strategy to create an integrated platform bridging traditional finance and digital assets.
