On January 6, CoinMarketCap encountered an unconfirmed bug that led to erroneous data for two meme coins, following community feedback. For BabyDoge, the bug inflated its market cap to $127.91 trillion — well above the entire crypto market’s total (with Bitcoin’s cap at $1.87 trillion at the time) — and incorrectly listed its 24-hour percentage change as 100,549,628%. Another affected coin, CHEEMS, had its price mistakenly set to $0.00103 (vs. its actual $0.00000103), pushing its market cap to $1.94 trillion. This briefly ranked CHEEMS 4th in the crypto market, surpassing USDT and XRP, while its 24-hour gain was falsely reported as 98,132%. The bug was swiftly resolved after the community flagged the issues.
