If you’re a European STEM student with a feeling that you might like to be a quant at Citadel Securities, you can always apply for an internship. However, given that only 0.4% of the students applying are accepted to Citadel Securities’ internships globally, you may need something to differentiate you. Winning a Citadel Securities competition will surely help.

Citadel Securities is running a new competition for aspiring quants in Europe. Between April 15th and 18th, the three day Citadel Securities Quant Invitational will involve multiple two person teams of mathematics, statistics, physics, and computer science students competing to create fully systematic trading strategies.
Winners will be chosen based on their research processes, modelling decisions and results, as well as their judgement, rigor, and collaboration. They will receive $10k, alongside an all-expenses paid three day trip to London and the sort of exposure that might make it easier to gain a place on an eventual internship.
Getting into the Quant Invitational is itself not easy, though. You have to compete for the possibility of competing in the Quant Invitational by applying alongside other candidates. Applications must be submitted by March 6. This is the first year that Citadel Securities has run the programme in London, but we understand that a similar competition in America is usually heavily over-subscribed.
