TechInsights, a Canadian research-based company known for performing teardowns on Huawei AI chip products, has now been sanctioned by China. After this step, the respective firm can’t do business with the native Chinese companies.
Bloomberg reported that China has banned TechInsights following constant revelations of Huawei AI chip details. As per the authorities, the Canadian company was benefiting the US with its move, targeting more restrictions on Chinese firms.
On October 9, China officially stated that TechInsights can’t do business with organizations or individuals in the country, including some drone providers and chipmakers.
Reasons are quite clear! TechInsights is one of the best companies that gives market analysis and product reviews. Amid these two topics, the research firm also covered the breakdown of the Huawei Ascend and Kirin processors.
TechInsights used to be the first to unravel hidden suppliers and foreign or local components in Chinese hardware products. Kirin and Ascend chipsets have always been a part of TechInsights teardown, which helped the US to eye Huawei’s growth.
It all started in 2023, when Huawei launched the Mate 60 Pro, powered by Kirin 5G. Despite being developed with outdated technologies, the respective chip had the power to compete “with the likes of Qualcomm and Apple.”
Meanwhile, TechInsights recently revealed that Huawei is still relying on its rivals like Samsung, SK Hynix, and TSMC to power up its chipsets for phones and technologies.
China didn’t mention any reason why it has excluded the Canadian firm from doing business in the country. Though the only motive we can see is to safeguard Huawei’s AI chip secrets from going outside China and put the company’s growth in danger.
