Officials meet community members to discuss progress and concerns

By Francis Maingaila ♥️

Lusaka, Zambia24 — (22-02-2026) – Chawama residents hosted UPND leadership at Misisi Congregation on Sunday, gathering to engage with officials on ongoing development initiatives and to show confidence in the Republican President and the country’s leadership, with discussions focusing on community programmes, infrastructure improvements, and youth empowerment.

UPND Acting Secretary General , the highest-ranking speaker at the gathering, highlighted the impact of government policies and modernization programmes on local communities.

“Because of the good policies and modernization programmes, many people are benefiting. We are grateful to be here and to strengthen our relationship with the community,” Imenda said.

She thanked residents for their continued support of the party and emphasized that their confidence could not be taken for granted.

Imenda said several development programmes had been initiated and assured the community that the party was committed to completing them.

According to Imenda, more than 100 communities have already benefited from clean and safe water projects, which she described as essential for improving quality of life.

She added that additional initiatives would be rolled out in the coming week and stressed that officials were present to listen to concerns and make informed decisions.

Rev. Happy Mhango, Priest-in-Charge of Misisi Congregation, thanked residents for inviting the UPND leadership and noted the importance of church involvement in community development.

He said that government economic and social policies had contributed to improving the welfare of citizens, particularly children, and encouraged residents to use opportunities responsibly to strengthen both the church and the wider community.

“As a church, we believe in honesty and accountability. The Bible teaches us to be responsible citizens and to work for the good of society,” Rev. Mhango said.

The priest also highlighted practical concerns, including sanitation and stagnant water, warning that these conditions could cause diseases such as cholera if not urgently addressed.

He said he would submit a letter through the appropriate office to the President outlining the community’s needs.

Morgan Muunda, the losing Chawama parliamentary candidate, described the turnout as a clear demonstration of unity and support for the President and the country’s leadership.

“This gathering is a clear testimony. It shows that the people here have confidence in the Republican President and in the leadership of our country,” Muunda said.

He highlighted the benefits of social programmes, improvements in infrastructure, and efforts to build youth skills through colleges and campuses.

A visiting speaker at the gathering said they had come to observe and join the community in fellowship, apologizing for any confusion regarding invitations and emphasizing the spirit of unity.

The meeting concluded with calls for continued cooperation between party leaders, church members, and residents to ensure the successful implementation of development initiatives in Chawama.
