Channing Tatum is getting real about his “painful” divorce from his ex-wife, actress Jenna Dewan. Amid his whirlwind relationship with model Inka Williams, the 45-year-old shared insights into his difficult separation from Jenna, with whom he was married for about a decade. The former couple co-parents their 12-year-old daughter, Everly.
The actor has been on a press tour for his upcoming film Roofman, and in one of such promotional interviews, he was asked about playing a character who misses his daughter. Reflecting on his split from Jenna Dewan and co-parenting Everly, Channing told Variety, “I know for a fact I’m able to understand it.” While Channing is now on good terms with his ex-wife, it was difficult for both of them when their relationship fell apart.

“Jenna and I are good now, but it was a painful break to have that fall apart, especially being so young,” he said. Sharing that both tried their best to keep their marriage going, the Deadpool & Wolverine actor explained, “We tried to keep it together, tried for a year and a half, but we knew it was…. Not to go into all that. It’s in the past.” He further shared that not having his daughter with him all the time has been difficult. “But it’s really tough not to have your daughter half the time. I wish I could just have her all the time,” he added.
FYI, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan first met while they were shooting for Step Up in 2006. After dating for two years, they got engaged in 2008 and got married the following year. They said “I do” in a wedding ceremony in Malibu, California, in 2009. In 2018, they announced that they had “lovingly chosen to separate as a couple,” with The Rookie actress filing for divorce in October that year. Channing and Jenna’s divorce was finalised six years later in September 2024.

Looking back at his separation, the G.I. Joe actor said that the heartbreak helped him grow as both a person and an actor. “I’ve lived six or seven different lives. Life gives you fuel. If you’ve really been heartbroken, and really been in pain and felt real, true aloneness … I’ve experienced enough life that I have something to offer. The technique and the ability to actually deliver,” he shared with the same outlet.
What’s Next For Channing Tatum?
The 45-year-old actor will be seen in Roofman, directed by Derek Cianfrance. He plays Jeffrey Manchester in the film, which is based on the true story of a former Army Ranger who turns to robbing McDonald’s by cutting holes in their roofs. Besides him, the crime comedy drama also features Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, Melonie Diaz, and Peter Dinklage, among others. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on October 10.
Apart from this, Channing Tatum also has Avengers: Doomsday in the pipeline. He will play Gambit in the upcoming MCU film.
