A fresh instalment of Channel 5’s Rich House, Poor House sees one family experiencing life at the magnificent Ludstone Hall, the residence of Poundland founder Steve Smith.
Steve and his son Joe are exchanging lifestyles with Kelly, John and their five youngsters, who reside 29 miles away in Stafford.
Over the course of seven days, they’ll inhabit one another’s properties whilst managing their respective budgets and ways of life.
In footage shared on Instagram, Steve showcased the expansive estate where he lives, featuring 11 bedrooms and six bathrooms.
In contrast, Kelly, John and their brood occupy a four-bedroom semi-detached property and survive day-to-day, reports the Mirror.
Upon swapping residences, the couple were astounded by the grand manor house where they’d be staying for a week.
Once inside, John dispatched his children on a quest to locate the swimming pool, though they struggled to find it, unaware that the ballroom floor descended to form a pool.
One of their daughters remarked: “We were walking over it and everything! No one even knew that it was there. That was the shock. It was very magical, very hidden even though it’s right in front of your eyes.”
Whilst the family became familiar with their temporary life of opulence, they were stunned to learn their weekly budget totalled an eye-watering £2,040.
Visibly emotional, Kelly responded: “That’s a lot. Are we too late in life to achieve, to even get even half of this a week? Are we too far in life to get this?”
Meanwhile, Steve and his son faced the challenge of surviving on the family’s £39.80 budget. Reflecting on the amount, he said: “I never expected to have such a little budget.”
