Sep. 16 — WILKES-BARRE — The Board of Directors of CASA of Wyoming Valley announced on Tuesday the appointment of Ruth Corcoran as interim executive director, effective Sept. 19.
A seasoned community leader, entrepreneur and advocate, Corcoran brings decades of experience in strategic communications, nonprofit engagement and organizational leadership to CASA.
As interim executive director, Corcoran will help guide the organization through this transition while supporting the critical advocacy work CASA provides to children and families across Luzerne County and Wyoming County.
“Ruth’s deep ties to the community and her proven leadership make her the ideal person to guide CASA during this interim period,” said Alex Grover, board chair. “Her professionalism, empathy, and ability to build trust will help ensure continuity and confidence among our advocates, partners, and donors.”
Grover said the organization is currently conducting a professional search for a permanent executive director. Corcoran will serve in the interim role during this period.
“I’ve long admired the work CASA does to support children in our community,” said Corcoran. “It’s an honor to step into this role and support the mission during this important time of transition.”
About CASA of Wyoming Valley
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Wyoming Valley is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse and neglect. CASA recruits, trains, and supports volunteer advocates who are appointed by judges to speak up for children in Luzerne County Dependency Court.
CASA advocates play a critical role in ensuring that every child has a safe, stable and permanent home.
These trained volunteers work one-on-one with children in the child welfare system — visiting them regularly, attending court hearings and making independent recommendations to help ensure their needs are met.
Each year, CASA of Wyoming Valley serves children in the community, working closely with judges, attorneys, social workers and caregivers to change the trajectory of a child’s life.
