Round 10 of the Geraldton hockey season brought goals, grit and a few stand-out performances under the lights and in the afternoon sun.
In women’s A-grade, the stand-out fixture saw Cardinals dominate Yacht Club with a commanding 5-0 win on Friday night.
Cardinals hit top gear early and never looked back, with Jessica Giudice-Nairn electric, scoring one and creating several other chances as defenders struggled to keep up with her pace and pressure.
Yacht Club had a few bright moments, with Lucy Chester and Lexie White showing tenacity through the midfield.
Later on Friday night, Australs got the better of Murchison 2-0, controlling the tempo across all four quarters. Jenna Johnson and Leah-May Labuschagne both found the net for the in-form side.
Saturday afternoon’s match between Swans and Saints was a tighter affair, with Swans edging out a 2-1 win. Holly Stubberfield and Katherine Allen both got on the scoresheet to seal the result in a closely contested game.
In women’s A-reserve, Australs returned to form on Thursday night with a 3-1 win over the Vets. Lizette Labuschagne starred with a brace.
Saints made a strong statement on Saturday with a dominant 3-0 victory over Murchison, with Lindsay Daw superb in goal.
The afternoon closed with a tense 1-1 draw between Australs and Yacht Club, both sides creating chances but held at bay by some determined defending.
Men’s A-grade action started midweek with a high-energy 3-2 win for Australs-Yacht Club over Murchison. Both teams pushed the pace from start to finish in a thriller under lights.
Friday night saw Casuals defeat Murchison 2-0, with Clint Yeates netting both goals in a lively clash.
On Saturday, Saints downed Australs-Yacht Club 2-0 in a spirited contest, with Matthew O’Neil bagging both goals in a commanding performance.
In men’s reserves, Casuals produced a goal-fest with a 5-1 win over Yacht Club. Angus Grant was nearly unstoppable, racking up four goals in a dominant display, while Brett Hinge scored the lone reply for Yacht Club.
Australs proved too strong for Saints in a 3-1 win, with Digby Williams having a standout game on Saturday afternoon.
Rovers put on a show on Friday night, scoring four stylish goals against Murchison’s blank slate. Ronan Croft was instrumental for Rovers, finding the net once and setting up numerous attacks in a commanding outing.
