While Cardano’s market value has experienced a significant downturn, a closer look at blockchain data reveals a compelling counter-narrative. Major holders are actively increasing their stakes, suggesting a potential divergence between short-term price action and long-term conviction.
A clear signal of enduring confidence comes from the institutional side. Grayscale Investments has notably increased Cardano’s weighting within its Smart Contract Platform Select Capped Index. The allocation rose from approximately 18.5% in January to over 20% by February, elevating ADA to the fund’s third-largest holding. This move indicates that some institutional managers view the asset’s weakness as a strategic opportunity rather than a reason for exit.
On-chain metrics tell a story of accumulation that contrasts sharply with the falling price. Over the past six months, addresses holding between 100,000 and 100 million ADA tokens have collectively purchased an additional 819.4 million coins. This accumulation, valued at more than $213 million, occurred precisely as ADA’s price fell roughly 70%, declining from previous highs around $0.90 to a current trading range between $0.26 and $0.27.
This behavior from large-scale investors, commonly referred to as “whales,” points to a belief that current levels represent an attractive entry point. Their buying during a period of pronounced market weakness typically reflects a long-term investment horizon.
Concurrent with these market dynamics, the Cardano ecosystem is undergoing internal restructuring to enhance efficiency. Governance of “Project Catalyst,” the network’s decentralized innovation fund, has been transferred from the development firm Input Output Global (IOG) to the Cardano Foundation.
