From digital future to French fries? Cardano’s founder isn’t impressed with crypto’s microeconomic factors.
Cardano’s (ADA) founder Charles Hoskinson could be the person asking you if you’d like “fries with that” on your next late-night McDonald’s trip. The outspoken computer virtuoso appeared in a McDonald’s uniform at this year’s edition of the Consensus crypto conference in Hong Kong.
Crypto’s Cold Shower: Hoskinson In McDonald’s Suit
Adding some shock value to his speech, Charles Hoskinson touched upon the slimming liquidity challenges despite the macro factors still looking alright. Despite the unforgettable micro setup, Mr. Hoskinson says the industry needs a “brand new paradigm, new vision, new narrative”.
“Twitter’s just a nuclear dumpster fire”, – carried on Charles Hoskinson, referring to the rising figures of hate speech & bot accounts. With the macro setup still healthy, Cardano’s founder insists that the recent regulatory winnings can accelerate the bounce if a fresh purpose is found.
This comes just two weeks ahead of Cardano’s developer team launching New City, the test environment for Cardano Midnight’s mainnet. This privacy-focused side-chain is set to go live in full swing by March, 2025, potentially solidifying the Layer-1 chain’s liquidity along the way.
“The McDonald’s Cycle”: Not So Far-Fetched After All?
Humorously dubbed as the “McDonald’s cycle”, this bear market has already pushed all major caps below their respective thresholds. This has even formed an ‘M’ letter structure on Bitcoin’s (BTC) weekly charts. Meanwhile, Cardano’s (ADA) dip is even harder with a 33% monthly pullback.
For Cardano (ADA), the current $0.2669 price is just barely 20% above the cycle low of $0.22, hit in November, 2023. This puts Cardano’s current price beyond 91% below the all-time high of $3, nailed on September 2, 2021. At the same time, McDonald’s public stock shares are embracing the irony with a new all-time high.
Once the geopolitical tensions settle, market watchers are expecting more capital to rotate into risk-on assets. Some are relying on the narrative that the United States government is yet to face another temporary shutdown in a few days. 84% of Polymarket players agree this is the most likely scenario on February 14, 2026 due to federal funding expiration without too much probability of making a deal.
