The first-ever cake picnic has been held in Kumasi, bringing together 25 local bakers to showcase their skills and learn from each other.

The event was organised by Inna’s Kitchen, SAR Consult, and Yummy Bakes to promote creativity, teamwork, and professional growth among bakers in the city.

Participants displayed a variety of cakes, including wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and chocolate cakes. The event created a platform for bakers to share ideas and experiences while networking with other professionals in the industry.

According to the organisers, the Cake Picnic aims to support young people and women in the community by helping them develop their baking and customer service skills.

The programme was led by Saddick Abdul Razack, Director of SAR Consult, Fati Adam, CEO of Inna’s Kitchen, and Hummu Jamal Ramart of Yummy Bakes. The organisers said they hope to make the event an annual one to help bakers grow sustainable businesses.

CEO of Inna’s Kitchen, Fati Adam, said the event provided an opportunity for bakers to share ideas, knowledge, and skills.

“It is important to come together as bakers to share knowledge, create opportunities, and help those who are vulnerable,” she said. “When we support each other, we grow together.”

The CEO of SAR Consult, who trained participants on customer communication, said customer care is key to business success.

“It is more expensive to look for new customers than to keep old ones,” he said. “Some customers need extra care. To give that care, you must have patience and go beyond their expectations. Be friendly, professional, and respectful to grow your business.”

Dr. Yoshana Adjei, one of the participants, said the Cake Picnic gave bakers a bigger platform to socialise and learn from one another.

“I learnt how to manage customers, face challenges, and still make sure they are satisfied,” she said.

Another participant, Zainab Nuhu, said the engagement taught her new ways to handle customers better.

“We have customers who are sometimes difficult to deal with. I learnt how to listen, apologise, solve their problems, and thank them after,” she said.

The event brought a renewed sense of teamwork and purpose among the bakers, who promised to apply what they had learnt to improve their businesses and customer relationships.

Organisers say future editions of the Cake Picnic will include training in marketing, packaging, and business management to help small baking businesses grow.
