Residents and visitors have a chance to connect with local food and meet the farmers behind it this month.
The fifth annual Know Your Farmer, Explore the BX tour is back Sept. 20 and 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
The BX, known for its rich agricultural history, is home to a thriving network of farms, trails, and hidden gems.
The tour is a family-friendly, self-guided event featuring farmstands, artisans, tours, scavenger hunts, and on-farm activities.
“We’re so excited to welcome the community back for the fifth year. Every farm has a unique story to share, and this tour is a chance to celebrate that,” said Rosemary Whelpdale at Elderberry Fields, which is on the tour on Hughes Road.
Browse fresh, local produce and handmade goods straight from the farm, plus each stop features a talented local artist or potter showcasing their craft.
Learn about farming practices and discover new places, participate in scavenger hunts, family-friendly activities, and events across the BX.
Four new farms and two new spots of interest have joined the lineup for 2025.
“The BX Farm Tour is about more than food — it’s about connecting people to place. When you meet the farmers and see where your food comes from, you feel part of something bigger,” said Jenn Cameron, of VanZeal Acres, also on the tour at Hughes Road.
Pick up a BX Farm Tour Passport and stop at all 11 farm tour locations for your chance to win the Grand Harvest Basket, filled with farmer-donated goodies. There are also two smaller prize draws. Kids (and adults) can enter the Barn Quilting colouring contest, for a chance to win prizes.
Beyond the tour, Cambium Cider is hosting a Community Harvest Dinner Thursday, Sept. 25. Enjoy a locally-sourced buffet meal in a stunning orchard setting, surrounded by farmers, friends, and neighbours.
