Update (6/24/2025, 12:12 p.m.):
The Eastern Nevada Interagency Fire group has announced via Facebook that containment for both the Burnt Canyon and Rosencrans Fires has reached 100%.
The Rosencrans Fire was fully contained as of June 16, and fire crews closed the fire line on the Burnt Canyon Fire on Friday, June 20.
Agencies say that both fires were started by lightning strike.
Update (6/16/2025, 5:15 a.m.):
Two fires are increasing in containment, in eastern Nevada.
The Bureau of Land Management says the Burnt Canyon Fire is now 80% contained at approximately 1,068 acres.
The Rosencrans Fire is 75% contained, and still around 727 acres in size.
According to the BLM, the fire areas are mostly black and smoldering. Pockets of unburned vegetation within the interior may continue to ignite and burn, but these pose no threat to the perimeter, as they are surrounded by already burned areas.
Firefighters will continue monitoring and addressing these interior flare-ups as part of ongoing mop-up operations.
Update (6/14/2025, 7:15 p.m.):
According to an update from the Bureau of Land Management, both the Burnt Canyon and Rosencrans fires are around 60% contained.
Officials say that the Rosencrans fire has been downgraded in severity, but the Burnt Canyon Fire continues to remain tough to battle due to challenging terrain.
The size of both fires has stayed the same since last update.
BLM says that one firefighters are able to get the containment line fully in place, the focus will shift to mop-up.
Original Story (6/13/2025, 2:50 p.m.):
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Nevada has shared details of a couple of large wildfires burning on the eastern side of the state.
According to the BLM, the fires ignited Thursday afternoon.
The Burnt Canyon Fire has burned over 1,000 acres so far, and the Rosencrans Fire has burned just over 700 acres.
Both fires are located roughly 65 miles southeast of Ely, Nevada.
Officials say that both fires grew in size overnight, and that crews are working in challenging conditions with steep terrain.
Firelines are being constructed and reinforced to secure the perimeters of the fires. According to each fire’s Inciweb page, the Burnt Canyon Fire is around 40% contained, and the Rosencrans Fire currently sits at around 40% containment as well.
Officials say that lightning strikes are the cause of both wildfires.
