The Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, Monday, directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to prioritise projects that strictly align with the state’s 25-Year Development Plan.
The governor made the directive while declaring open a one-day 2026 budget stakeholders’ bilateral discussion in Damaturu.
Represented by the Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, Governor Buni, described the budget as a crucial legal document and the foundation of the state’s development aspirations.
He stated the need for a “responsive and transparent” budget aligned with the state’s overarching goals.
Governor Buni reiterated the administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline but issued a stern warning against financial indiscipline.
“The government will not tolerate any form of financial indiscipline including off-budget expenditures or misclassification of funds. The implemented budget must be handled with integrity,” Buni added.
Earlier, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Mohammad Garba Gagiyo, stated that the forum aims to create a clear pathway for efficient resource allocation.
He urged accounting officers of MDAs to participate personally to gain the knowledge needed for effective budget implementation.
In a keynote address, the chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Buba Ibrahim Kalallawa, stated the budget’s role as the primary tool for translating government policies into tangible projects.
He noted the discussions provide a platform for MDAs to align their submissions with the state’s development agenda.
Kalallawa affirmed the House of Assembly’s commitment to supporting the government, stating the process “ensures inclusiveness, eliminates duplication, and strengthens accountability.”
