DAMATURU – Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has said his administration would continue to equip and reposition the Public Service to enhance service delivery to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

He stated this today in Damaturu while swearing into office the new commissioner for Livestock Development, Hon. Yerima Lawan Mahmud, Head of Civil service, Alh. Abdullahi Musa Shehu, two special Advisers Mohammed Bukar Ibrahim, Yahaya Barde and Statistician General of the state Abdulrahman Malik.

He charged Yerima Lawan to inject his wealth of experience to develop the new Ministry to achieve the goals of establishing the Ministry.

“I wish to reassure livestock farmers that government would invest heavily in livestock development especially establishment of veterinary clinics, provision of water, development of fodder banks, and vaccination of livestock against trans-boundary diseases to exploit the rich livestock potential to make Yobe state, Nigeria’s leading Livestock production state” Gov. Buni said.

The Governor also charged the new Head of Service, Alh. Abdullahi Musa Shehu to galvanize the civil service to improve productivity and service delivery to the people of the state.

“You are encouraged to promote and reward hard work to all deserving workers without sentiments, enhance team work, ensure delegation of responsibilities, champion transparency and due process in conducting government businesses.

“The government would continue to accord priority to capacity building to enhance productivity and service delivery.

“Currently, 34 of our Permanent Secretaries are undergoing training at the Public Service Institute in Abuja, with another 149 civil servants at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, Lagos” he added.

Gov. Buni said the appointment of Mohammed Bukar Ibrahim and Yahaya Inuwa Barde, as Special Advisers would no doubt add value to the government/electorate relationships.

“You are advised to use your connections with the grassroots to project the people’s interests to be reflected in government policies and programmes to improve their lives” he said.

According to him, government established the State Bureau of Statistics to support it with scientifically verifiable figures for guidance on government policies and programmes to achieve the desired results with little waste.

Gov. Buni called on the people “to continue to support and pray for the state, and the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for a united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria”.
