Twenty new artworks feature in the third Regional Arts Triennial exhibition in Broome Cain AndrewsThe Kimberley EchoMon, 22 September 2025 1:02PM
Broome will host the third iteration of the Regional Arts Triennial on September 26, featuring 20 new contemporary artworks made especially for the exhibition.
The Radical Futures We Walk Together exhibition will take place over two venues with the main site at the Octagon on Farrell Street and selected works on display at the University of Notre Dame library annex from 10am to 4pm.
Kimberley Arts Network executive officer Clancy McDowell said organisers and artists had pulled out all the stops for this iteration of the exhibition.
“Each time, the theme is different. This is a radical futures theme, and I think the difference is this time, the Kimberley’s picked up the ball and ran with it in that we are collaborating right across the region in previous iterations,” she said.
“There’s been exhibitions with Kununurra artists at Warringarri, and there’s been smaller activities here in Broome but this year, we’ve really worked together and were determined to put everything into it, and it really shows in terms of the scope and the scale of the outcomes and the exhibition.”
Working with 20 Kimberley artists, the exhibition’s Indigenous curatorial team selected Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists to create works that offer a vision of the future in the Kimberley, entitled We Walk Together.
The Broome exhibition is one of 13 linked Regional Arts Triennial exhibitions across WA, each taking a different lens on the theme radical futures.
Southern Forest Arts Staff artistic director and general manager Fiona Sinclair and one of the main curators of the exhibitions said it was extremely exciting to showcase the whole region.
“It’s a landmark exhibition,” she said.
“There’s been such a focused amount of effort and really incredible skill in crafting the show and it’s going to be a snapshot in time of the diversity of creative practice above the 26 parallel.”
Kimberley curator Dora Griffiths said she grew a deeper understanding of the artworks and the stories they tell while curating the exhibition.
“On this project, I am working cross-culturally and have developed a deeper appreciation of the many stories being told by artists across the region,” she said.
The art exhibition program will also have opportunities for residents’ interest in the creative industry with Art on the Move running a gallery fundamental training program September 23 and 24, teaching patrons the basics of exhibition preparation.
The Regional Arts Triennial also hosted an exhibition in Kununurra at Artopia Gallery from September 12 to 19.
The Broome exhibition will officially launch at the Octagon on September 26 from 5 to 7pm.
