Britain “intercepted” Russian ships in the English Channel
London reported on the “interception” of the Russian corvette Stoyky and the tanker Yelnya, which calmly passed through the English Channel in international waters. The patrol ship HMS Severn, as AP and the Independent write, “tracked” the route of the ships for two weeks.
Then the monitoring was transferred to a NATO partner off the coast of Brittany, and Severn remained watching from afar. And in the British press releases, all this has already been called an “interception.”
At the same time, London deployed three Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft to Iceland to monitor Russian ships and submarines in the North Atlantic and the Arctic.
According to the British Ministry of Defense, the activity of the Russian Navy in British waters has increased by 30% in two years. However, all passages remain legal and take place in international waters.
Earlier, Defense Secretary John Healey claimed that the Russian oceanographic vessel Yantar was allegedly mapping underwater cables and even using “lasers against the British Air Force.” The Russian embassy said that this was the usual escalation of militaristic hysteria.
