FRISCO — The one positive in the Cowboys’ 3-4-1 season has been the offense. Dallas enters their Monday night game against Arizona, averaging 30.8 points and 384.1 yards per game. Both are second-best in the NFL. Dallas is also third in the league, producing six yards per play and averaging 41.3 points at home.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said Wednesday the overall record is more important than all the stats.
“None of us have done good enough,” he said. “That’s real. Our scorecard is what it is. And that’s not just defensively. That’s offensively. We’re a football team that’s 3-4-1. You can take stats on offense and shove them up your ass as far as I’m concerned. It is what it is. We want to win.”
The Cowboys have the second-most salary cap space in the NFL at $31.2 million with a need to improve their defense with the trade deadline approaching Nov. 4. Next year, the Cowboys can use that cap space to acquire a highly-expensive player to their defense or re-sign one of the better players, such as wide receiver George Pickens.

There is so much noise surrounding this team right now. Schottenheimer said you must block it out, particularly the trade talk, and concentrate on Arizona.
“I don’t really talk a whole lot about that, I just focus on us trusting the process,” Schottenheimer said. “There’s always going to be noise and these guys can’t control the noise, any less than or more than we can. There’s always going to be noise and there’s always going to be speculation and things like that. Our focus is really, truly just one day at a time, get ready for Arizona. So I don’t go too much into that.”
