Andrew Cavenagh contacted the former player for insights into the team.
Laudrup, considered a fan favourite, won five major trophies during his time at the Glasgow club.
He said: “I had the privilege of speaking to Mr Cavenagh just a few months back,” and described the Rangers chairman as “a very clever guy” who is “trying to find out just how to get Rangers back to where they once were.”
He also discussed the club’s strategy and direction, particularly regarding player recruitment.
Laudrup recounted, “he was looking for some advice, in terms of taking it forward.”
Laudrup expressed his curiosity about why Rangers have not targeted more Danish or Scandinavian players, considering the success many had achieved at the club over the years.
They discussed the significance of players’ mentality in recruitment.
The Dane mentioned in their conversation how players from similar backgrounds had done well at the club before.
He said, “Rangers had many Scandinavian players throughout the years who had a lot of success.”
However, the addition of Danish players Andreas Skov Olsen and Tochi Chukwuani to the roster has pleased him.
He said: “So in that respect, it warms my heart… that we’ve now got Chukwuani and Skov Olsen at the club.”
Laudrup feels positive about the club’s current state and its future.
Based on his conversation with Cavenagh, the former winger said that the chairman “wants to provide the new manager with the tools to take Rangers back to the top again.”
Rangers fans would be pleased to hear the encouraging signs, but the former player posed a challenge, “The question will always be, can they get over the line and actually win something? That’s huge.”
Being a significant part of Rangers’ history and now a source of advice for the team’s future direction, Laudrup’s faith in Cavenagh comes as a morale boost for the fans.
Laudrup added: “I think he wants to learn as much as possible… the signs are very encouraging for me.”
He also said: “It looks like it’s going in the right direction… But I think the fans can definitely be encouraged.”
Laudrup’s dialogue with Cavenagh offers a glimpse into the chairman’s hands-on approach towards improving the club.
Yet, as Laudrup underscores, the test lies in translating these promising signs into tangible success.
