BNB Chain is set to roll out its latest hard fork, named “Maxwell,” on June 30, 2025 — a major upgrade that will cut BNB Smart Chain’s block time in half, from 1.5 seconds to just 0.75 seconds.
The goal: faster transactions, smoother user experience, and improved validator performance across the ecosystem.
The upgrade includes three core proposals — BEP-524, BEP-563, and BEP-564 — which focus on speeding up validator communication, enhancing block synchronization, and refining network responsiveness. The changes will benefit developers, dApp users, node operators, and validators alike.
Maxwell builds on momentum from the previous “Lorentz” hard fork, which reduced block time from 3 to 1.5 seconds and brought noticeable improvements in stability and efficiency. Following Lorentz, daily blockchain reorganizations were cut by more than half, and DEX activity surged as transaction fees dropped to just $0.04, according to Dune Analytics.
With Maxwell, BNB Chain aims to position itself as one of the fastest and most efficient networks in the crypto space. The enhanced speed will make common activities like token swaps, NFT minting, and DeFi interactions nearly instant — offering a smoother experience for users as network congestion becomes less of an issue.
