The Block Awards 2025 expanded its scope this year to recognize more individuals and organizations working to grow blockchain technology across the Philippines.
Now in its third year, the awards were organized by the Blockchain Council of the Philippines. This year’s edition introduced new categories such as Regional, Community, and Brand Awards, as well as the Youth Excellence Awards to spotlight young innovators and expand blockchain’s presence nationwide.
“The Block Awards is more than a celebration, it’s a call to action,” said Donald Lim, president of the Blockchain Council of the Philippines. “Every honoree represents the growing movement to make blockchain part of our everyday lives, from government systems to grassroots communities.”
Lim also said the Philippines must take an active role in the digital future. “We honor innovation not for novelty’s sake, but because it builds trust, creates value, and shapes a better future for all Filipinos,” he said.
Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Emilio Aquino and former Department of Information and Communications Technology Undersecretary Jocelle Batapa-Sigue were named Leaders of the Year for the government and private sectors, respectively.
Other awardees included:
Honorees were selected by a jury panel led by Luis Buenaventura of GCash and composed of past Block Award winners Gail Macapagal Cruz of DTaka, Alvin Wong of Maya, Mia Rocha Lauchengco of Galeria Paloma, and Jiro Reyes of Bitskwela. This year, the process also included public voting.
For the second year in a row, winners received NFT trophies, digital artworks created with ScarletBox and curated by Blockchain Council trustee Sheree Gotuaco. The 2025 trophies combined the abstract style of National Artist Jose Joya with the expressive strokes of his grandnephew, Andre Baldovino. Each piece was printed as a museum-grade giclée and framed to last over a hundred years.
Organizers said the Block Awards aim to build a national platform that supports blockchain educators, builders, communities, and advocates shaping the future of Web3 in the country.
