
SEALSQ Corp has announced new advancements in post-quantum cryptography designed to protect Bitcoin and blockchain networks from emerging quantum computing threats.
The Switzerland-based semiconductor and post-quantum technology company is expanding its Quantum Resistant Authentication Security and Robustness for Systems, or QUASARS project, which develops hybrid cryptographic technology and quantum-resistant hardware for critical infrastructure protection.
Industry analysts have identified quantum computing as an existential threat to blockchain security. According to cybersecurity researchers, approximately 4 million bitcoins — about 25% of the usable supply — are stored in addresses with exposed public keys, making them vulnerable to quantum attacks.
BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has formally acknowledged this risk by listing quantum computing as a material threat in its bitcoin ETF filings. Security experts warn that “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks are already underway, with encrypted blockchain data being collected for potential future decryption.
“Our mission is to provide the building blocks for a quantum-secure digital economy,” said Carlos Moreira, CEO of SEALSQ, in the announcement. “The threats are not on the horizon; they are here.”

SEALSQ’s technology includes PQC-enabled microcontrollers and secure elements that can be integrated into existing digital systems. These components protect against quantum decryption attacks in real-time and enable hybrid cryptographic architectures that combine classical and quantum-resistant algorithms.
The company aims to secure blockchain ledgers and wallet infrastructure without requiring extended network downtime, potentially preserving the core values of decentralization and privacy in cryptocurrency systems as quantum computing advances.
SEALSQ’s technology development comes at a critical time as quantum computing capabilities progress toward levels that could potentially break the elliptic curve cryptography that underpins Bitcoin, Ethereum and other blockchain networks.
