Bitcoin is trading between $87,500 and $88,000. Crypto consolidation continues. Bitcoin saw a slight dip in the last 24 hours. Ethereum gained a little. Many major altcoins like XRP and Solana experienced losses. The global crypto market capitalization is near $3 trillion. This follows a period of decline in 2025 for Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Bitcoin has remained range bound between $87,500 and $88,000 as crypto consolidation continues. The cryptocurrency was trading at the $87,440 level on January 1, 2026.
In the past 24 hours, Bitcoin went down by 0.90%, whereas Ethereum went up by 0.14%. Among the major altcoins, XRP, Solana, Tron, Dogecoin, Cardano and Hyperliquid were down over 5% in the past 24 hours, whereas BNB was up 0.25% in the same period. The global crypto market capitalisation was down 0.84% to $2.96 trillion, according to CoinMarketCap.

The CoinDCX Research Team said that crypto market consolidation continues as Bitcoin remains accumulated within a tight range between $87,500 and $88,000. As a result, the altcoins within the top 10 are also trading below their respective resistance levels, thereby squeezing volatility to a large extent.
However, the global market capitalisation is slowly approaching the $3 trillion mark after a rise of nearly 1.66% in the past 24 hours to reach $2.99 trillion.
The Global M2, which measures global monetary supply, has once again marked highs. Unfortunately, Bitcoin appears to be decoupled this time, the CoinDCX Research Team added.
In the past week, Bitcoin was down 0.23%, whereas Ethereum was up 1.06%. Among the major altcoins, BNB, Solana, Tron and Hyperliquid were up nearly 2% in the past week, whereas XRP, Dogecoin and Cardano were down over 8% in the same period.
Bitcoin went down nearly 5.33% in 2025 to a level of $88,474 as of December 31, 2025, from $93,462 on January 1, 2025. The cryptocurrency further corrected 30% from its October record high level of $126,300.

Ethereum edged down around 11% in 2025 from $3,332 on the first day of the calendar year to the $2,972 level on December 31. The global crypto market capitalisation edged down from $3.26 trillion on January 1, 2025 to $2.99 trillion as of December 31, 2025, according to CoinMarketCap.
