U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis recently introduced a comprehensive bill aimed at modernising how crypto is taxed. Key features include exempting transactions under $300 from capital gains tax (capped at $5,000 annually) and delaying taxation on mining or staking rewards until they’re sold.
The proposal also outlines tax breaks for lending and charitable donations and allows mark-to-market accounting for crypto traders, putting digital assets on par with traditional securities.
The bill, projected to generate $600 million from 2025 to 2034, could become law amid a friendlier 2025 regulatory environment.
