Binny Bansal’s 3STATE Ventures backs AI commerce startup ShopOS with $20 million investment

Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal has invested $20 million in ShopOS, an AI-native operating system for e-commerce brands, through his venture fund 3STATE Ventures. The funding will be used to scale the startup’s product and engineering teams and onboard global brands, the company said on June 26.

Founded by Sai Krishna V K and Ajay P V — who previously built AI/AR startup Scapic (acquired by Flipkart) and led Flipkart Labs — ShopOS aims to replace the patchwork of tools currently used by brands with an integrated AI-powered operating system. They are joined by Karan Sonawala, who spearheaded immersive tech at Flipkart.

ShopOS uses AI agents to automate three core commerce functions: content creation, marketing, and site management. Its ‘Make’ module generates product images, videos, and copy in a brand’s style. The ‘Market’ module runs localized campaigns and automates customer segmentation. And the ‘Manage’ module dynamically adapts storefronts to user behaviour.

“ShopOS is building the commerce stack of the future with AI at its core,” Bansal said in a statement. “The potential for an AI-driven operating system to empower brands, particularly in navigating cross-border commerce and hyper-personalization is a lot.”

The investment marks one of Bansal’s biggest individual bets since his Flipkart exit.

ShopOS already counts early customers across India, Europe and the UAE, and is eyeing expansion to hundreds of brands globally. The founders say they’re building “from India for the globe” and will tap local AI talent to execute on their vision.

“Brands have been constrained by the very tools meant to empower them,” said co-founders Sai Krishna and Ajay. “We’re now in the early days of generative commerce — ambient AI agents that don’t just assist, but actually execute key business functions.”

The startup’s pitch comes amid a surge of interest in agentic AI startups that use autonomous software workers to handle sales, operations, and marketing. ShopOS is betting that this shift will reshape how brands operate and scale, especially in global markets where localization and personalization are key.

This comes after Bansal had, in April this year, committed Rs 70 crore to set up the Binny Bansal Institute for Inventing the Future (IIF) at Mohali-based Plaksha University.

The newly-launched institute focuses on artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and robotics to develop scalable solutions across sectors like healthcare, agriculture, energy, and sustainability.
