Betfred has revealed plans to relocate into part of the old Boots store in Bedworth town centre. The bookies currently has two branches in the town centre – one in King Street and one in the Bede Arcade.
But a new planning application shows that the firm wants to close both and relocate them to one unit in what was the large Boots store on All Saints Square.
The former Boots store has been divided into two units and it is already known that Greggs is set to take one of them.

“Betfred are looking to relocate both these units to operate just one betting shop in the town at Unit 1, 11-15 All Saints Square,” the proposal explains.
“The proposal would therefore result in the reduction of bookmakers’ business within the town centre area and no additional bookmakers would be added within Bedworth centre.
“The focussing of Betfred’s business within the town centre area will bring a vacant unit back into use which supports economic growth principles in the national and local planning policy and will free up two additional units for other retailers.”

It goes on to add:” The retention of Betfred within the main town centre means they will continue to supply employment in the area which contributes to economic development objectives set out in the NPPF (National Planning Policy Framework) and local policy.”
Planners at the Town Hall are now considering the application. To look at the plans, visit the council’s website and search in the planning applications section for reference 041514.
