The Charleston Friends of the Library (FOL) is an organization committed to supporting the Charleston County Public Library (CCPL). They strive to promote literacy, access, and engagement within our community through book sales held throughout the year. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of volunteers, they help to provide program funding for patrons of all ages at the 18 library branches in Charleston County.
On Oct. 11 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., they will be hosting their first Teen Book Sale at Wando Mount Pleasant Library (1400 Carolina Park Blvd. Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29466), encouraging teens to shop for their next read while supporting their local library branch. A variety of middle school and teen books intended for grades 6-12 will be for sale, including graphic novels and manga. For the t-shirt collectors, vintage CCPL Summer Reading t-shirts will also be available for purchase. As a special incentive, The Friends of the Library will be giving away free t-shirts to anyone who donates books at the event. Additional giveaways will include a raffle for a middle school book bundle, and CCPL swag while supplies last. After shopping, teens can participate in their choice of craft, creating their own one-of-a-kind wooden bookmark or designing a fun book themed button for their tote bag or backpack.
The Friends of the Library offers many ways to get involved, including donating, volunteering and purchasing a FOL membership. Teens who are enthusiastic about reading and looking to earn volunteer hours can speak to Friends of the Library staff at the event about future book sales and other opportunities.
