Berachain is moving toward ultra-fast blockchain speeds with a new proposal that could make its transactions feel nearly instantaneous.
The proposal, titled “BRIP-0007: Berachain Preconfirmations,” introduces an optional “fast lane” feature designed to deliver faster transactions while preserving the blockchain’s fundamental security assurances.The plan aims to cut inclusion times from roughly two seconds to just 200 milliseconds, putting the network in line with a growing number of blockchains racing for real-time user experiences.
This system would allow transactions to show as confirmed in less than a second, improving responsiveness for decentralised finance (DeFi) trading, on-chain gaming, and other applications where delays can disrupt user flow.
Rather than altering Berachain’s core consensus design, the new layer adds a lightweight sequencer that groups transactions into small “partial blocks.” These blocks deliver immediate visual feedback to wallets and decentralised apps (DApps), while final settlement continues through the existing two-second block interval.
According to the proposal, the sequencer will temporarily validate and broadcast transaction data to reduce perceived latency. As a result, users will see their transactions confirmed within about 200 milliseconds, even though complete finality still happens on the same schedule. This change could make decentralised exchanges (DEXs) and Web3 games feel as smooth and responsive as centralised platforms, opening the door for developers to create seamless, near-instant applications.
The proposal also highlights safety mechanisms to ensure stability. If the sequencer encounters synchronisation issues, the network will automatically fall back to its regular two-second block production, maintaining reliability and liveness.
While Berachain’s approach is innovative, it follows a growing trend among blockchain networks experimenting with preconfirmation systems. The concept first emerged in Ethereum (ETH) research circles, where developers explored “soft confirmations” to give users feedback before full on-chain finalisation.
Ethereum layer-2 networks have since adopted similar strategies through shared sequencers and fast lane architectures. In July, Base launched its Flashblocks feature to deliver preconfirmations on mainnet, improving transaction responsiveness. More recently, Primev, an Ether infrastructure provider, introduced a Remote Call Procedure (RPC) that brought preconfirmations directly to the Ether mainnet, allowing faster transfers and contract interactions across the network.
Berachain’s proposal positions it among the most advanced projects aiming to bridge blockchain performance with Web2-like user experiences – where even decentralised transactions happen in the blink of an eye.
