Escape to the Country fans fumed over an “unnecessary” Chesney Hawkes detail on Tuesday (December 30).
In the latest celebrity instalment of the BBC programme, host Jules Hudson met The One and Only singer and his wife Kristina, who were looking to move out of their rented home in suburban Surrey for a chance to live in the Cotswolds.
The couple had a healthy budget of £1.3 million, and hoped to buy a classic character property with modern proportions, which Jules said was “not the easiest to find”.
Four double bedrooms were required to accommodate the whole family, plus space for a music studio and a garden for the dogs.
Jules launched the search in the middle of Gloucestershire in the village of Edge, followed by a converted pub in the village of Ashton Keynes in north Wiltshire.
However, the property search soon came to a halt when Chesney decided to teach Jules how to play chords on the guitar. The pair then proceeded to improvise a song together in front of an outdoor fire.
That’s not all, as Jules also hosted a singing quiz in one of the prospective properties, in which Chesney and Kristina had to guess the identities of famous musicians from incomplete pictures.
BBC viewers weren’t impressed with the amount of “filler” in the episode, with many taking to X (formerly Twitter) to share their complaints.
“Oh god this filler material is so unnecessary!” one person wrote, with another adding: “I agree. Cringe.”
A third said: “For Christ sake BBC,” with another similarly sharing: “Bloody hell don’t quit the day job lads.”
