A HAMPSHIRE council has been reaccredited for its efforts to tackle violence against women and girls.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has been recognised by White Ribbon UK, a global campaign focused on ending male violence against women, particularly through changing behaviours and cultures that enable abuse.
The reaccreditation is part of the council’s ongoing three-year plan, which includes revising domestic abuse policies, promoting ambassador and champion schemes, and raising awareness within the community.
Cllr John McKay, cabinet member for communities, partnerships and inclusion, said: “Everyone has a responsibility and a part to play in creating environments that women and girls can live lives free from the fear of violence.
“This reaccreditation is one part of the important work the council does to combat inequality and violence in all forms.
“The continuation of this work will be supported by our partners and will help to increase safety in our borough.
“I encourage residents and visitors to the borough to show their support by taking the White Ribbon pledge.”

The council originally achieved White Ribbon accreditation in 2022 and will now remain accredited until October 2028.
The initiative closely aligns with the council’s broader efforts to address domestic abuse.
Looking ahead, the council will launch a new three-year programme aimed at further shifting attitudes and preventing abuse.
Plans include working directly with victims and survivors, recruiting additional male champions, and collaborating with the licensing team to review safety measures in the borough’s evening and night-time economy.
