Leonard began his career in high-frequency trading and risk-engine development before founding a lending startup in China. That experience introduced him to blockchain technology, eventually pulling him into the 2018 ICO boom. After several wins and losses, he shifted from investing to building, which led him to work at Binance as a product manager. There, he learned the importance of fast execution and clear decision-making.
During that time, Leonard also worked closely with Changpeng Zhao, an experience that later evolved into a mentor relationship. Today, CZ’s investment firm, YZi Labs, is one of Aster’s major stakeholders. Leonard says the mentorship has helped him navigate the challenges that come with rapid token growth, community expectations, and long-term project planning.
A major part of the conversation focused on what sets Aster apart from other decentralized exchanges. Instead of competing directly with market leaders like HyperLiquid, Aster focuses on native multi-chain integration, strong customer support, and privacy features. Leonard explained that Aster aims to recreate the smooth experience of centralized exchanges, while still giving users the benefits of decentralization. The team also provides hands-on community support — something many DeFi projects overlook.
Privacy is one of Aster’s biggest future goals. The company is currently building its own privacy-focused blockchain and plans to offer “hidden order” trading options, giving users the ability to protect their trading activity from public view. A testnet is expected later this year, with full rollout planned for early 2026.
Aster’s roadmap is built around three pillars: expanding infrastructure, increasing token utility, and delivering privacy solutions. The team is adding new asset types, including real-world assets like gold and stocks. They also launched Rocket Launch, a program designed to help early-stage projects gain liquidity. The first launch, APRO, generated more than $2 billion in volume.
To measure success, Aster tracks active users and trading volume — clear signs that traders find value in the platform. Leonard believes trust remains the top concern for DeFi users, especially after past industry failures. Aster aims to earn that trust through transparency, strong community engagement, and consistent delivery.
