The European Composites Industry Association (EuCIA, Brussels;Â http://www.eucia.eu) has announced the launch of Carbon Fiber Europe, a new alliance aimed at supporting growth of the continentâs carbon fibre industry.
Founding members of the alliance are Hexcel Composites, Mitsubishi Chemical Europe, Teijin, and Toray Industries. According to EuCIA, Carbon Fiber Europe will focus its work on four strategic pillars: advocacy and representation, sustainability and circularity, innovation and standards, as well as health and safety.
The organisation also plans to advance responsible production practices, promote circular economy models, and support efforts to reduce the carbon footprint across the carbon fibre value chain, including end-of-life management.

At a recent meeting in Brussels, members elected Raf Bussels, senior director EMEA R&D at Mitsubishi Chemical Group, as chair, with Axel Leuchter, head of EU sustainability group at Teijin, elected vice-chair.
EuCIA president Roberto Frassine said the alliance would help reinforce carbon fibreâs role in Europeâs sustainable industrial development, noting its importance to decarbonisation, innovation, and industrial resilience.
Bussels highlighted the materialâs role in lightweight, high-performance composite applications across sectors including transportation, energy, aerospace, and defence.
Carbon Fiber Europe is currently defining its priority actions and working-group structure, and a dedicated website is expected to launch soon.
