Arriva has issued a statement after one of its buses hit a pedestrian on Friday. A man was taken to hospital after he was hit by the 75 bus in Woolton Village on Friday morning.
There was a large emergency services presence in the village at around 9.55am today after the man was hit by a double decker bus on Woolton Street. The man has been taken to hospital and a large cordon remains in place on Acrefield Road, from Woolton Street to Rose Brow. The bus company has said an investigation is ongoing following the incident. In a statement a spokesperson said: “At around 9.50 am on Friday, July 4, an Arriva bus on the 75 service was involved in an incident with a pedestrian in Woolton Village.
“Emergency services attended and an investigation is ongoing.”
Restaurant staff working nearby told the ECHO how emergency services swarmed the area this morning. One woman, who works in Botanico Woolton, on Allerton Road, said: “There has been loads of police, there was a helicopter, fire service and ambulance here but they have all cleared out now. There’s just some police here.
“The road is still closed, no cars can drive past. They came around hours ago, I was working so don’t know what happened but that’s when I noticed all the police cars.”
Pictures of the scene show a large cordon and police presence in the area, as motorists are being diverted away. An Arriva bus is also pictured inside the cordon. It’s unclear when the road will be reopened.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We received a report of a collision involving a double decker bus and a male pedestrian on Woolton Street in Woolton at around 9.55am today, Friday 4 July. The male has been taken to hospital.
“There are road closures in the local area while the incident is being dealt with and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
