A man armed with a weapon has been shot dead after attempting to gain entry into Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, the US Secret Service is reporting.
The individual, in his early 20s, seemed to be carrying a shotgun and a fuel canister as he tried to breach the secure boundary, according to the Secret Service. Despite Trump frequently spending weekends at his resort, he was at the White House when this incident occurred.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed.
The Secret Service stated that the man was “observed by the north gate of the Mar-a-Lago property carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can.”
He was shot by Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County sheriff deputy around 1:30am on Sunday, the agency confirmed, reports the Mirror.
Trump has faced several assassination attempts throughout his presidential campaigns and tenure in office.
His previous campaign trail was marred by two assassination attempts.
In July 2024, shots were fired at an outdoor gathering in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a solitary shooter injured Trump’s ear before being taken down by Secret Service snipers, resulting in one fatality and leaving the country in shock.
Corey Comperatore, a volunteer fire chief, tragically lost his life while trying to shield his family from the gunfire.
Ryan Routh, aged 59, was convicted last September of attempting to assassinate Trump and attempted to stab himself in the neck with a pen following the reading of his verdict in court.
Just weeks following Routh’s unsuccessful assassination bid, security personnel prevented a further conspiracy in Florida after discovering a firearm concealed close to a golf course that Trump was attending.
