Some consumers hoping to transfer funds via mobile money-sending apps PayPal and Venmo were reporting outages on Thursday, Oct. 16.
Users began reporting problems with both apps about 11:15 a.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 16, according to Downdetector.com, which tracks outages by collating status reports from a number of sources.
The trouble-tracking site showed outage reports peaking at about noon ET for both payment sites.
“PayPal and Venmo experienced a brief service disruption that has since been resolved,” the company said in a statement to USA TODAY at 1 p.m. ET.
Paypal, which has owned Venmo since 2013, announced in July 2025 PayPal and Venmo users would be able to send money to each other in 2026.
Downdector posted updates on X, noting “user reports indicate problems” with both sites.
