The Arbor Day Foundation is hosting its 57th annual AppleJack Festival in Nebraska City at Arbor Day Farm this month.
Taking place this Saturday and Sunday and Sept. 27-28, festivalgoers can pick their own apples, listen to live music, sample cider and tour a greenhouse.
For the first time, visitors also will be able to snip their own flowers and take home a fresh arrangement in a jar.
New treats will be available to buy: caramel apple cinnamon rolls, apple pie funnel cakes, barbecue burnt-end bowls and burnt-end walking nachos.
A limited-edition ice cream flavor developed in partnership with 402 Creamery will return for a second year. “Nebraska to the Core” is a vanilla bean base mixed with Arbor Day Farm’s homemade apple cider, apple swirls and toasted oat streusel.
Festival organizers hope the event brings the Nebraska community together.
“Here at Arbor Day Farm, people are creating memories that last long after the harvest season ends,” Brandon Schuster, vice president of Arbor Day Farm, said in a press release.
“Love, the Locals” Makers Market will take place during the opening weekend, featuring 20 vendors from Nebraska and surrounding areas. The second weekend will offer a “Living History” experience, where guests can learn about the ethnic heritage and customs of early Nebraskans.
Ticket prices for various activities range from $5 to $20. For the full schedule of events, visit http://www.arbordayfarm.org/events/applejack.
