Apple to launch M5 iPad and MacBook Pro along with Vision Pro 2 this week? Here is what we know

Apple may have another surprise in store for its users this week. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is preparing to roll out refreshed versions of the iPad Pro, the Vision Pro headset, and the base 14-inch MacBook Pro. All of these devices are likely to run on the new M5 chip. Unlike its high-profile launch events, Apple is expected to quietly introduce these products through online announcements and short promotional clips rather than a big stage show. The timing of the reveal, however, remains a bit uncertain. Monday is a holiday in the US and Canada, which could push Apple to hold back the press releases until later in the week. So, Indians can expect announcements sometime this week.

Interestingly, the next iPad Pro has already been spotted in the wild before Apple could even announce it. Unboxing videos from Russia gave away the key details. The tablet will come with the M5 processor and at least 12GB of RAM as standard. Externally, there are no dramatic changes, except one subtle tweak. The “iPad Pro” branding is no longer etched on the back.

Performance, though, looks to be the bigger story. Early benchmark tests suggest a decent jump in speed, with up to 12 per cent faster multi-core CPU output and as much as 36 per cent better graphics compared to the M4 variant. Rumours about a dual front-camera arrangement for easier video calls had raised hopes, but the leaked units showed no such feature, leaving some confusion about whether it will be part of the final design.

Apple’s ambitious headset, the Vision Pro, is also said to see an update. Gurman believes this version will carry the same M5 chip as the new iPad Pro. Earlier reports had pointed to an M4 upgrade, but it looks like Apple wants to keep all its premium devices aligned on the latest silicon.

The refreshed Vision Pro may also feature a new “Dual Knit Band” for better comfort and could come in a Space Black finish. Regulatory documents suggest the headset will continue with Wi-Fi 6 rather than newer standards like Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7. Whether Apple markets this device as a second-generation Vision Pro or just a spec bump is not yet clear, especially since reports suggest that the company has paused work on a full-fledged successor and a cheaper “Vision Air” model, redirecting efforts to smart glasses.

The third product likely to be introduced this week is the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro. Gurman’s newsletter notes that this model is “ready for launch” with the M5 processor. More powerful versions with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are expected only in 2026, meaning Apple is taking a staggered approach to rolling out its latest chip family.

For now, the design and features of the MacBook Pro will remain familiar. Bigger changes such as OLED displays, touchscreen support, slimmer frames, built-in 5G, and eventually M6 processors on TSMC’s 2nm process are being reserved for future generations.

Even as these updates take the spotlight, Apple’s product roadmap remains packed. Gurman has hinted at new AirTags, Apple TV, and HomePod mini still under development. The coming year could also bring refreshed versions of the entry-level iPad, iPad Air, MacBook Air, and even a new iPhone 17e.

For now, though, all attention will be on this week’s newsroom posts. If the leaks and reports are accurate, Apple is about to quietly expand its portfolio with three key devices, each carrying its latest M5 chip.
