Apple is ditching its traditional event format for its March product rollout, opting instead for a three-day stretch of daily press releases followed by in-person hands-on sessions across New York, London, and Shanghai. At least five new products are expected, including the iPhone 17e, a low-cost MacBook, updated iPads, and refreshed MacBook models.
Whenever Apple announces new products, it goes one of two ways. The first is an in-person event complete with hands-on demos. The second is an online-only event where we get press releases. However, it seems that Apple is taking a new approach to announcing new products, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
According to Gurman, Apple could be switching up the way it announces new products. Instead of a single event or a series of press releases, Apple is adopting a new product announcing strategy. Gurman claims Apple’s upcoming March 4 event could actually be a three day affair.
The event is being held simultaneously across New York, London, and Shanghai. That in itself is a bit out of character for Apple. Now, Gurman claims that Apple could announce its new products online, and the events held in those cities will be a chance for the press to get a hands-on experience with its new products.
This is an interesting approach, but it makes sense. According to the rumors, Apple could announce as many as five new products on the day itself. So, by spreading the event across multiple cities and days, it would give the media enough time to try out everything.
For starters, it is rumored that Apple will launch a low-cost MacBook at the event. This laptop is rumored to be priced lower than the MacBook Air. However, the main difference is that unlike the rest of Apple’s Mac lineup, it won’t use the company’s M-series of chipsets. Instead, it could be powered by the same A-series found in Apple’s iPhones.
Other rumored products aside from the MacBook include the iPhone 17e, an iPad Air with the M4 chip, a new entry-level iPad, and upgraded MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models. Those are a lot of products to unpack, so it makes sense that Apple is trying to space it out. Either way, we’ll have the details next week. Be sure to check back with us for all the updates.
