EXCLUSIVE: The University of Connecticut (UConn) women’s basketball team – the most successful women’s program in the nation – has scored its own docuseries.
The team, which is coached by Hall of Famer Geno Auriemma, who has the best record in college basketball, are to be the focus of a three-part series from Apple TV+.
It comes on the back of their latest win as 2025 NCAA National Champions, beating South Carolina.
In 1985, the UConn women’s basketball program had one winning season in its history, but with the arrival of Auriemma as coach and an iconic collection of players, including Rebecca Lobo, Swin Cash, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Maya Moore, Tina Charles, Breanna Stewart, and No. 1 2025 WNBA Draft pick Paige Bueckers, who went to the Dallas Wings, the Huskies became the gold standard in college basketball.
The series, which is now in production, will explore the history and the recent win through a mix of archival footage and interviews.
It comes from directors Matthew Hamachek, who helmed Apple’s The Dynasty: New England Patriots series, and Erica Sashin, who exec produced and directed episodes of Netflix’s Harry & Meghan.
Skydance Sports with Learfield Studios and Brillstein Creative Partners are executive producing.
It marks the latest sports docuseries for the streamer following series such as Fight for Glory: 2024 World Series, Onside: Major League Soccer and Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend.
