APC Says Opposition Parties Have Failed Woefully – OsunDefender

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has described opposition parties in Nigeria as directionless, saying they have failed “woefully on all counts.”

APC spokesman Seye Oladejo, in a statement on Tuesday, expressed concern over the deteriorating state of opposition parties as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections.

“Rather than serve as credible watchdogs, policy challengers, or intellectual counterweights to the ruling party, the opposition has degenerated into a coalition of desperation, confusion, and hypocrisy – the very bane of Nigeria’s democratic growth,” Oladejo said.

He added that the strength of a democracy is measured by the quality and consistency of its opposition.

“Sadly, Nigeria’s opposition lacks leadership, cohesion, and a clear political philosophy. Individuals who once claimed to stand for ideological principles now leap from one platform to another in search of personal relevance,” he said.

Oladejo contrasted today’s opposition with the years under the leadership of now-President Bola Tinubu, describing him as a master strategist who built a strong coalition based on principles, ideas, and structure.

“Tinubu offered Nigerians a credible alternative founded on progressivism, good governance, and national unity,” he said.

According to Oladejo, the APC today reflects what responsible and visionary opposition politics can achieve when guided by patriotism rather than personal ambition.

He said President Tinubu’s administration continues to implement the Renewed Hope Agenda and pursue tough but necessary reforms to reposition the economy and restore national pride.

“The APC finds it troubling that none of the opposition parties has presented a coherent roadmap for the economy, security, education, or social development. Their default strategy remains to criticise government policies without offering credible alternatives,” Oladejo said.

He warned that a visionless opposition undermines democracy by reducing public discourse to confusion and noise. “Democracy thrives on choice, and when one side of the political divide fails to evolve, citizens naturally disengage. Today’s opposition is a fragmented group of self-appointed messiahs and expired politicians who mistake social media noise for national relevance,” he added.
