At one point, it seemed like no matter where you went, you’d run into a craft brewery here in the Land of 10,000 beers. Lately, rather than announcing a new brewery opening, we’ve been breaking the news that many have been closing their doors. Sadly, another Minnesota craft brewery will be closing for good. Here’s information on the latest brewery to close.
Alloy Brewing Company in Coon Rapids will be closing for good mid-July, according to a post on the business’ social media page.
The announcement has been met with a mix of fond memories and moments and bittersweet comments.
The business also announced that the lease for their building will coincide with the closure.
Right now, there isn’t a hard date set for the closing, but the brewery promises a farewell party on a date yet to be announced.
I think all businesses will say that their employees played a big part of the successes that they saw, but it truly was the case with Alloy. Alloy had an employee-brewed series that allowed employees to be creative, as well as learn how to brew beer or create seltzers, while also contributing to the bottom line when they were on tap.
I knew a guy who had brewed quite a few of the employee beers, and he was excited every time he was picked to create something new; it added life and a fun wrinkle to going to Alloy.
Alloy has brewed over 500 times in 8 years with over 274 different beers and seltzers, that’s dedication.
Alloy Brewing Company is/was right down the road from where my brother lives with his kids, so it wasn’t much to drive over, enjoy a beer with my brother, giving him some time away from the 3 little ones for a few minutes. Much like at Backshed, we got to know most of the staff, and after Backshed closed this spring, it’s tough for craft brew fans to see another established brewery close.
Alloy had been open for 8 years, but as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.
